On May 7, drs. Jan Hooimeijer, was a guest on Ellen Pitlo's program #OverDieren; they had an in-depth conversation about health, welfare, and behavioral issues.
During the program, which was divided into four 10-minute segments with music in between, we discussed the following topics, among others:
- Respect for animals as a counterpart to love for animals.
- Welfare issues as the basis of behavioral problems resulting in health issues and premature death.
- Prevention of welfare problems is not a priority within veterinary/human medicine, nor in teacher training.
- How do we deal with and how do we resolve welfare/behavioral problems?
